I saw this movie 2 months before. It,s very perfect, even though I know nothing about Russian language. This movie mainly talk about Kazak fought against Junggar Mongol tribe. Junggar Mongol was located in Xingjiang(eastern Turkistan). This tribe invaded Kazakstan, and raided Mongolia around 16th century. Finally Junggar Mongol tribe was defeated by Manchu (Qing Empire). The defeat was a total destruction. Qian long Emperor lead an army consisted of Manchu eight banners, Mongol troops, and Chinese soldier(Xiang jun) made a brutal genocide on this tribe( nearly 200,000 Junggar was butchered except for an new born infant. The vanguard of massacre are Manchu 8 banners. Under the help of Mongol and Chinese soldiers, few Junggar mongols fled to Mongolia or covered themselves among Chinese. Tis a shame we massacred our own people. This is what life was like before Genghis Khan, the disunited masses of nomads dreaded with internecine warfare.

My Mongol brother. In fact, when I saw the documentary of Junggar made by Chinese experts, my tear pouring down , and felt very bad. Mongol peoples have been divided so long that they distrust each other. Iner Mongol peoples and Mongolia peoples don't trust each other, sometimes they look down upon each other. I,m working hard, and trying to earn huge bucks. I do it for rebuilding confidence of Mongols, and eliminate poverty in my hometown(Rep of Mongolia) I will devote all my property even my life to my motherland. Recently, union of Mongol people is the most crucial point.( people of iner Mongols, Crimean Tartars) I saw this movie 2 months before. The film is nice. I liked the story, but Russian language spoiled the whole impression -- You know, Russian language sounds very funny to us ;D For example, when Mansur and his friend talk about that girl, the guy sais "You too are in love with her!?", but this sentence, said in Russian, in my language means "You too are kissing her" ;D Also Junghars were shown more nomadic than Kazakhs in this movie I wander why?

Also Junghars were shown more nomadic than Kazakhs in this movie I wander why? yes i also wondered that, i would have thought it was more the other way round... Very good observation! Many Kazaks noticed that and many dislike this fact. This portrayal is the direct result of the insecurity complex that was ideologically imposed on Kazaks during the Soviet era. During the Soviet Union, communist Kazak historians tried to make Kazaks not to be associated both with both Kipchaks and the Golden Horde - two ideological arch nemesises of the modern Russia (remember the famous Russian " Tale of Igor's Campaign", era of " Tatar yoke", Kulikovo battle, etc.). Moreover, Soviet Kazak historians tried to demonstrate and prove that "the age-old friendship between brotherly nations of Russians and Kazaks" was true. Therefore, the amazing historical distortions took place. Ancestors of Kazaks were now associated not with the nomads of Genghis Khan, but with the sedentary Khwarezmian empire that was destroyed by Genghis Khan. In the end, the Mongol massacre of the Khwarezmian city Otrar was turned into the event of the national heroism and martyrdom of Kazakstan! Soviet Kazaks were brainwashed and made believe that before Genghis Khan's invasion, their ancestors were sedentary agricultural farmers who peacefully lived in the cities and towns on the Silk Road before the "bad invaders" came from the east. And moreover, Kazaks were told that anthropologically their ancestors were blue-eyed blonds who were "corrupted" by the racially Mongoloid army of Genghis Khan (even today some Kazaks believe in that BS and use that filthy racist word! ) Soviet historicans made Kazaks artificial victims. So the Russian concept of "Tatar yoke" was artificially transferred upon Kazaks. Many Kazaks today realize that this Soviet ideological brainwash had terrible consequences - even today, considerable part of Kazaks are ashamed of their "glorious and terrible" nomadic past. There's a lot of work to be done to undo these consequences of the nationwide insecurity complex. The movie's plot is loosely based on the second book "Jantalas" ("Agony") of the Soviet Kazak writer Ilyas Yesenberlin's (1915–1983) trilogy "NOMADS" (hence, the name of the movie) which was written in the 1970s. "Nomads" covers the history of Kazak people and Kazak khanate from 15th century util 1847. It is considered to be one of the greatest historical fiction works in the whole realm of the Kazak literature. Yesenberlin was one of the patriotic Kazak writers who wasn't afraid to speak up his mind. You can clearly see, that even the title of his book "Nomads" was a challenge against the ideological rules of Soviet Russia that made historical Kazaks look like peaceful victim-farmers. He also wrote a great trilogy called "The Golden Horde", which cost him many problems from Moscow. Yesenberlin was a great man. Today, it is a sad irony that the movie that is based on Yesenberlin's book "NOMADS" (and copies its title) now reincarnates the Soviet myths of Kazaks being mostly the sedentary city-dwellers. And indeed, most of the Kazak scenes in the movie are shot in the dusty streets of Turkistan city and fortress - which is absolutely NOT representative of the Kazak life in the 18th century. In fact, the overwhelming majority of historical Kazaks were nomadic pastoralists who lived in the felt yurts. Only very poor Kazaks who didn't own livestock were involved in agriculture, and as for the cities and towns, they were mostly inhabited by Sarts (sedentary ancestors of modern Uzbeks and Tajiks), but were ruled by the Kazak aristocracy. But compared to Oirats (Jungars), Kazaks were more involved in the city governance. Cities on Syrdaria and in Jetisu were governed by Kazak (Golden-Hordian) khans since the days of old, while originally Oirats lived in the steppes of Jungaria and didn't own any towns. Their conquest of the Tarim basin cities occurred later in their history. Nevertheless, the majority of both people didn't have any significant differences in the ways of their life, as both were nomadic pastoralists and mainly fought over the pastures.

My Tatar brother, you are very picky. If Turkey Cinema don't play it, you can go to Kazakstan, but it depend on your fiscal situation and your mom's consent. I want to see it on cinema =)

Saw the movie and loved it a lot. It's a real movie comparing to the one made by the Japanese last summer called "Borte Chono" (about Chinggis Khan).
