As a mongol, I found this movie as a Kazah science fiction in terms of history.
Even khan Abylai opposed Zungars, he became a father in law of Amursana, a last khan of Zungar fighting against Qing. Amursana died at hands of his Kazah khatun in Tobolsk, a Russian Qossaq town near today's Sverdlovsk. Amursana was defeated against Qing and came to Abylai for help, but the wily old fox just gave him his daughter and refused to fight on his side against Qing saving Kazah nation from genocide. However, he might be a tough guy or baatyr in his young times.
Zungars were displayed more nomadic than the Kazahs. Kazahs living in Mongolia are true nomads. Movie makers should have visited western Mongolia before they shot the garbage.
Galdantseren, who was portrayed in the movie, lived and died before Abylai khan's rise, and he never lost a single battle against Kazahs and Kirgiz. He paid tributes to Qing while expanding Zungar territories westwards.
Very funny scenes of battles, so Kazah and Zungar nomads fight each other like Chinese kung fu pandas. Something like 80's Hong Kong made martial art movies or Shao lin monks.
Overall, it's crystal clear, that the movie is dedicated to the new independent Kazah nation state, which needs its heroes and history so the kids should admire and love the Kazah nation. Sorry about my opinion.
