I have a friend, who's interested in Mongolian history. He studied a lot and knows a lot of history despite his profession is engineer, I actually adore his knowledge. Unfortunately, he doesn't speak English. He asked me to ask you the following questions as he's always eager to learn more and more. Please answer the questions, I'll be very happy to pass it to him.
1. "When did the people with Altaic language start differing from each other as Turkic, Mongol, Hamnigan etc?"
2. The origin of the Sogds/Sogdians?
3. About Turan state? Its culture?

1. Some scientists belive that the separation of Altaic (let us call it Altaic) language in to Turkic, Mongolian and Tunguz languages started somewhere at the time of Xiongnu (Huns) - (Rene Grousset). He thinks that some later-to-be-Turkic and later-to-be-Mongolian peoples at that time could understand eachother. Offcourse, this can be debated since we actually don't have an idea of how really did Xiongnu language look like. According to modern linguistics, this separation could have happened much earlier, since (exept common words and grammar rules) Turkic and Mongolian languages don't have common suffixes --- Note that what makes language a language are not words, but grammar and it's nature. Words are only a tool for expressing this or that language. So, peoples of Altaic language family started to differ from eachother (Turks, Mongols and Tunguz) at the time of Xiongnu or earlier -- with greater possibility that it happened earlier. 2. The Sogdians were of Indo-European origin (Iranic language family) which is already a well known fact, since numerous Sogdian texts were discovered and translated up to this day. 3. Sorry, I don't know nothing about this

Some scientists belive that the separation of Altaic language in to Turkic, Mongolian and Tunguz languages started somewhere at the time of Xiongnu Other scientist believe that Turks, Mongols and Tungus were originally separate and never had a common language before, and the similarities they have today are simply due to cultural exchanges and the geographical proximity.

I heard about both theories A. A common root that would also mean common genetic root B Only echanges (mostly vocabulary) this would rule out a genetic link
2. I totaly agree with our Yabghu Aca
3. Accualy Turan is something that is made up by nationalist.
The word Turan is a persian word. In ancient persian texts the Lands of Iran & Turan are discribed.
Iran means land of aryan or arian land and Turan was the Lands north wich did not belong to the persians.
Turanic genetic, culture & language was all made up by nationalists.
I think it started from some Hungarian writer or activist.

I would believe this theory more as it is line with the rest of how the world works. Language came about from tiny collective groups, not one language for the whole Altaic people nonetheless. I actually believe that each tribe on the steppes had their own unique culture, kinship, and language/dialect. Only until they formed into huge confederations like Hun, Turk, and Mongol did the various tribes consolidate under one leader and assimilate the language, culture, and kinship of the charismatic military cheiftain. But in terms of genetic links, language means nothing, too liquidable .
