Very well asked question. I would like to share my opinion. By the way, I am new to this forum and its my first post. let me list the names that I can think of now. Gua Maral (Mother of All Mongols by legend) Alun Gua (The true 5 arrow holding mother, gave birth to Bodanchar , first ancestor of Borjigin Tribe) Oulen (Mother of Temujin) Borte (Principle Queen of Chinggis Khagan, wise and beautiful) Yisui (Consort of Chinggis Khagan, known for her wits, famous by reminding Khagan need a heir) Sorghaghtani Beki (Niece to Wang Khan, mothered 4 Khagans of Mongol Empire) Mandukhai (reunited Mongols in times of chaos) Anu (Principle Consort of Galdan Boshigt, lost her life in Battle) from the list , my choice would be Anu. I can't reason why I chose her. Maybe because I have read a wonderful poem about her.

Hiad-Bor-Jigin Chinggis Khaan`s golden line(noble line). Anu (Principle Consort of Galdan Boshigt, lost her life in Battle) -She rebelled against Chinggis khaan`s descendants! She is kinda against Chinggis khaan! Oirats 1% of Today`s Mongolia might chose her! I will chose MANDUKHAI TSETSEN QATUN!!! Cuz only she was in head of Army & fought in battles! She took total power! Any nobleman who married her would take the throne!

From other point of view your are right. But she didn't challenge the Golden lineage herself. It was her husband's doing. She simply served her duty as a wife and mother of a khanate. Her deeds are noble and sacred.
Well, She certainly stands out for personally leading the armies and a whole nation. The other women were simply behind curtain and instrumenting or aiding others' rule.

Queen Anu? I wouldn't say she's the greatest but I think this weekend I'm going to ask my girlfriend if she would do the same if I was in Galdan's position ;D
