Presented here the reconstruction of three major battles Oirat-Manchu war 1688 - 1697 years.
Battle #1: 21 July 1690 place: Ologoi lake (western Mongolia)
Zuungars led by Galdan Boshigtu khan: 20,000-25,000 army composed of horsemen, gunmen, and spearmen.
Expeditionary Qing army led by Manchu general Arani : 20,000 strong army composed of light cavalry, and bowmen including horsemen from Khalkha and Southern Mongolia.
Battle lasted 1 day with Zuungar army prevailing and pursuing retreating Qing general.
Battle #2: 1 August 1690 place: Ulan-Butun (Mongolia)
Zuungar: 20,000 strong army.
Qing: 100 - 110,000 men strong army composed of Manchu 8 Banner Cavalry, gunmen and artillery.
Battle lasted for 4 days without clear prevailance of either side. On the fifth day Galdan's army retreated to north and Qing army didn't pursue him.
Battle #3: June 1696 place: Zuun-Mod (Mongolia)
Zuungar: 5-6000
Qing: 35-40,000 men strong army composed of infantry, cavalry and artillery. Main army composed of Chinese and Manchu forces in the center and Eastern Mongols in the flanks.
Battle lasted from the morning till fall of the day. Most of the Oirat army had fallen and just few hundreds escaped.
War started in 1688 with invasion of Eastern (Khalkha) Mongolia by Zuungar(Oirat) leader Galdan Boshigtu and lasted till his final defeat and death in 1697.

Galdan Boshigtu before succeeding khan title was a Buddhist monk. After succession he continued to have his hair cut like a monk. In the picture Galdan together with his Tibetan bodyguard and Russian Cossack envoy.
