I want to share some of the artwork of one of my favourite Kazak painters, Ağımsalı Düzelhanov (born 1951)

TUMAR (Greek: Tomyris) - the queen of Sakas /5 century BCE/

The queen of ancient nomadic Saka-Massagetae tribes who lived in Central Asia. According to the Greek historian Herodotus, she defeated and killed the Persian king Cyrus and stopped the invasion of the Persian empire. She is considered a national hero by many of the Central Asian and Turkic people.

Portrait of Abılay Khan



Abılay (1711 - 1781) is one of the most prominent figures in the Kazak history, the legendary ruler of Kazaks who dedicated his life to the struggle against the invasion of Oirats (Dzungarians) and the colonization attempts by Russian empire and Qing dynasty of China. He managed to restore the power of the Kazak khanate, destroy the Oirat state, and keep the balance between the foreign policies towards Russia and China.

His face looks very similar to the head of his statue, but his hat looks more like a Qypchaq-Qyrghyz hat rather than the headgears used by the Blue Turks, to our knowledge.

There were many types of Blue Turk headgears:







Of course the ordinary nomads wore the typical fur nomad hats; they have been clearly depicted on the wall paintings located in Ashina Zhong's tomb in China. It was published by Ýsenbike Togan in her Turkish translation of the Tujue (T'u-chüeh) section of Jiu Tangshu (Chiu T'ang-shu); I was planning to take a digital photo of it and put it here but the camera isn't in my home right now

Ofcourse, headgear on the secon and the third pictures are one and the same thing. The second picture shows Bilge-qaghan's crown (more correctly tiara) just after it was unearthed; and the third picture shows the same thing after reconstruction.

I must say that the headgear shown on the Kul-tigin's statue looks to me very much like Bilge-qaghan's tiara

I think so too.

I knew that the last two photos are the same thing. I just wanted to show how different it might look from different perspectives.

Colored versions are on top of the B&W.

I only miss Genghis Khan, I will scan him later.
