Dear all I wanted to post some pictures of, the culinary delights of ET. It is one of the best kept secrets to the world that this wonderful style of food exists. However, for some weird reason, the pictures won't link onto this forum but I have posted it in www.steppehistoryforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=39.0

Ah, very nice dishes indeed There is an Uzbek restaurant here in Ankara, which I take my friends and guests. They have very nice food It's also similar to Uyghur cuisine indeed.

I heard there is some friendly rivalry on who makes the tastier lagh man.
The lagh man in ET is really special, it has a very special texture even the Uighurs and Huis down here can't make it taste the same. I hope to be able to compare it with its Uzbek variant one day..

I've had Uzbek Lagman once, it was very soupy. I don't know if all Uzbek Lagman is like that but I didn't like that kind.

I have to say thanks to nanman for calling ET as it is - East Turkistan. Uyghurstan is also acceptable, and the Junggar Basin still un-renamed which is good. Xinyiang - wtf is with that?

Actually I'm also against the useage of Uyghuristan for entire Eastern Turkistan, because Uyghuristan forms only a part of there. There are also Qazaq, Qyrghyz, Jungghar, etc regions. I guess the reason why the name Uyghuristan is put in useage is that they want to erase the name "Turk" from it - Panturkism is one of China's biggest nightmares indeed.

Xinyiang - wtf is with that? Xinjiang is a Chinese term which means 'new territory'. It's funny, they give it that name while they claim that this land was never independent.

I guess the reason why the name Uyghuristan is put in useage is that they want to erase the name "Turk" from it - Panturkism is one of China's biggest nightmares indeed. Just about all Uyghur use E.T. And the Chinese don't use either of them, ever....only Xinjiang. But when the Chinese do talk about politics with their friends they say E.T. Right, Pan-Turkism is just as, or even more, illegal here than seperatism.

May be we could call it DT. Is it Dogu Turkistan when not in English?
Officially its called X.J.U.A.R which does roughly translate to New Dominion Uighur Region. Which completely implies it was seized.
Admin is right in making the point that Uighuristan is strictly speaking the large Tarim Basin area in ET.

May be we could call it DT. Is it Dogu Turkistan when not in English? Doğu Türkistan is the Modern Anatolian Turkish version of it. In Uyghur, it's Sherqi Türkistan, meaning Eastern Turkistan. The Chinese version Dōng Tūjuésītǎn (Tung T'u-chüeh-ssu-t'an) 东突厥斯坦 or Dōng Tǔěrqísītǎn (Tung T'u-erh-ch'i-ssu-t'an) 东土耳其斯坦 are just Chinese transcriptions of these Turkic names.
