In Walt Disney's animated movie "Mulan" (1998) our glorious ancestors, the Huns (Xiongnu), appear as the tough warriors in fur hats. The Huns destroyed the imperial army of China (unfortunately, in a movie only whatever remained of Chinese was shown), and they perished only from the cunning of the Chinese girl Mulan and her little detachment. I want to note the significance of the main villain - the ruler of the Huns (shanyu) - as the unique example in the history of Disney movies. Unlike all of the Disney villains, he reaches his goals not by the cunning and insidiousness, but by the straight honest war. Unlike the majority of villains, he does not look ridiculous, he does not get in the stupid situations, and he does not sing idiotic songs. He is the villain who is impossible to laugh at throughout the whole movie - one of the reasons why the creators of "Mulan" were criticized. The famous "avalanche" attack of the Huns, which was CG-modelled, is shown here, too! Enjoy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R-yPmcPl2c P.S. I recently downloaded it...I love it So I downloaded Mulan 2 and it was not very good, not worth watching it...will spoil Mulan 1. And on Mulan 2, the Mongols invade within a space of 2 months....but you don't see them.

balamir,
I don't find Huns monstrous.
"Shanyu" is not the tribe, but the title of the Xiongnu rulers. Erdene was talking about "Mulan 2" where the bad guys were played by the Mongolians.

Here is a short story of Huā Mùlán 花木蘭: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hua_MulanThe Shanyu guy was my favorite in the movie ;D Hmm I guess you confused it with another name Because Chányú (Ch'an-yü) 單于 was the title of Xiōngnú (Hsiung-nu, Asiatic Huns) 匈奴 rulers. Yes. When the movie came, Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi (Nationalist Movement Party) made a campaign to ban the movie from being shown in the theaters because the movie showed "our ancestors as barbarians" ;D Surely those MHP guys are definitially funny foolish ignorants

Shan Yu as depicted in the game Kingdom Hearts II ( left) It is believed that Shan Yu's appearance was based on the Chinese ink drawing of the Genghis Khan-era commander ( right)
