Hello,Now i want to turn the members attention to the times of Khan Asparuh rule of 7 -th century A.C. After my researches upon this matter i have found several things : First Khan Asparuh began to rule in a very unpleaseant time. The Old Great Bulgaria was split in two as a consecuence of the death of its founder - Khan Kubrat and the constant attack of the Khazars from the east. Eventually Khan Asparuh headed west and the south to the region of Dobrudja. He took Mizia after the defeating of the Vyzantine empreror Constantine 4 in the battle of Ongula of 680 A.C. After this important victory the Danube Bulgaria was settled. The political situation in the region was the following :
The Vyzantine empire was engaged with its biggest enemy - The Arabs in the south. The Khazars was the biggest thread for the Bulgars from the norht-east.That´s why Khan Asparuh made many defeating facilities near the border of Bulgar / Khazars of Dnepr river. In Khan Asparuh biography is mentioned of the constant battles between the Bulgars and the Khazars and in most of them Khan Asparuh took part himself. The Legend tells he died in the Battlefield somewhere between Dnepr and Dnestr river in todays Ukraine defending the Bulgarian khanate against the Khazars. However the strenght of the Khazars was lowered by the attacks of the Arabs in the south. They were trying to penetrate the Kavkaz mountains - the Derbent pass which i previously spoke about. So the Khazars couldn´t carry on much further west and southwest n the Bulgarian territory, because they were pressed from both sides. So i can actually say Khan Asparuh was kind of lucky because he could take advantage of the whole situation around him and to make his best to creat the Danube Bulgaria in the dificult circumstances around him. So i think this make him a Great Leader and Khan of the Bulgars for all times.
