Sayokan is supposed to be a Turkish martial art self-defence system and is supposedly recorded in Chinese chronicles. There are several sites too: www.sayokankaradeniz.comwww.sayokan.co.ukIs there any more info?

I wonder which Chinese or any other historical sources give information about this. Appearently, this is not something historical, but an artificial modern martial art. Check what the Sayokan UK official web site says: www.sayokan.co.uk/index.php?module=CMpro&func=viewpage&pageid=2Of course it is nice to have someone represent Turkey in sports in this way, indeed I appreciate that; but I dislike the way they say Sayokan is an ancient Turkic sport, which is probably not true. We are a History Forum and we would like to see some historical evidences

Maybe it's claimed that Sayokan is a derivative of an ancient Turkish martial art, but it's a derivative of Goishin Kaikan, a discipline of Karate-Do.

-amarok- (Alpaguntlug, Mengü, Azrak, Oghuz Körashý) there are some fight arts of turkic shamans. but there are not offical. a man called hakan haslaman -living in germany- learnt and eatabilished a federation many years ago. unfortunately, there was no federation in Turkey . there are 3 major parts of that art: 1. with no weapon 2. using weapon (bow, spear, sword, two swords in each hands...) 3. using weapons on horse. those all i know. but there are lots of things

I don't believe it a bit Turks didn't have a form of martial art.
Unless you count wrestling. There are no historical records that the turks used martial arts but it's what i think verry weird that there isn't..
Chinese: Kung fu Japan : Karate Korea : Hapkido Thailand: Muay thai
these are just examples the other south east asian countries have also a form of martial arts if i'm not wrong.
but the turks and mongolians don't I find it hard to believe that they didn't.
But steppe warefare isn't met for close range combat and I believe a god wrestler(wich has more strengt than any other fighter) is more effective to take down a aponent with no weapons.
I think the steppe people had forms of martial arts with weapons and unarmed they used wrestling.
We have a accualy well bad saying here europe 'I'm not proud of it'
Turks(we) don't say there criminals or hooligans because we all are those things.
what i wanted to say is that the turks and mongols were a martial race so everybody knew how to fight how to use a weapon.
so fighting wasn't seen as a ability or something that you would need to learn but something that came natural
baby need to learn how to walk do they need books or lessons no the copy adults.
the same goes for the fighting skills of teh steppe people and all other martial peoples
