UNESCO is associated in celebration of 1000th birth annivarsary of Mahmud Kashghari which is proposed by Turkey unfortunately no support by any other Turkic countries including Kazakhistan. There are other annivarsaries also e.g. 2200th foundation of Tashkent city, 400th Birth of Katip Chalabi, 500th birth of Kyz Zhibek from Kazakhistan etc. Here is the link and list of annivarsaries of UNESCO for 2008-2009 in which Mahmud Kashghari is no 65: portal.unesco.org/en/ev.php-URL_ID=41546&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html

Thanks to Tengrim that at least we have Turkey on the earth to say something for us. May Tengrim flourish turklerim to be the strongest nation and hope those "lost" turks find their wijdan some day in future. it's pity that in this culturally greatest figure's hometown few people knows about that and there is no sign to celeberate on him. Great pity.

Thank you very much my friend ! But I wonder why those people did the celebrations in advance in 2007. The birthday was recorded as in 1008, so this year should those activities be held in. I am confused anyway. this is famous turcologist and archaeologist Mirsultan Osman Efendi (left)who found the tomb. He spent1/3 of his life in jail. the man in the middle is the famous painter Ghazi Ehmed who painted Kashgari's portrait.

I don't think these were pictures that promoted awareness that 2008 is UNESCO's Mahmud Kashgari year. I just want people to know he is by no means a forgotten man in Uighuristan even though it is occupied.
I was enlightened in Turpan about his achievements. As a Chinese, I have a lot of respect for Kashgari and his work.
Why they celebrated the 1000 birthday in 2007 instead of 2008. Either there has been some confusion about his exact birthday or it could be a product of sinicization because the Chinese people tend to believe when there are born they are 1 year old. For example, I am 20 years of age but in Chinese speak, I am actually 21, I am living my 21st year of my live.
There could have been ulterior motives by the CCP Chinese government though.

Great pity. Thank you my dear friend. Unfortunately, even the administrators of Turkey do not have a Turkish/Turkic identity. The president is Arabic (rumors about him being half Armenian also exist), the prime minister is Georgian (some say he is half Greek), his advisors as well as a great number of the parliamentaries are k.rds; even the Georgian prime minister openly says that he dislikes Turkish nationalism, as well as calling himself a "Turk".
