Dear members, we all know that last year was the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Mongol Empire (more correctly, the proclamation of Temüjin Khan as Chinggis Khan). This has also caused many people in Turkey to get interested on Chinggis Khan and the Mongols. In December an exhibition about Chinggis Khan has been opened in the Sabancý Museum of Ýstanbul and I will visit it next month when I will go to that city; it will stay open ntil April 8. Besides, especially this month, many magazines have published articles about him and his empire; such as Atlas (geography), Popüler Tarih (history) and even Skylife (belonging to Turkish Airlines). A large advertisement of the exhibition has been placed in the international Ýstanbul Airport too. I like this athmosphere

This is the article which I found on the web. ubpost.mongolnews.mn/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=228&Itemid=36“Today we have a Chinggis Khaan Avenue and a statue of Chinggis Khaan in the center of Ankara. Soon, Ulaanbaatar will boast of an Ankara Street.” So announced M.Enkhbold, Prime Minister of Mongolia, at the official ceremony to mark the opening of the Chinggis Khaan Park in the Turkish capital of Ankara on November 2. Around three meters tall, the bronze statue of Chinggis Khaan (Gengiz Han in Turkish) has been erected in a park named after him in the Cankaya district of Ankara. The statue was made by a Turkish sculptor and is the first ever statue of Chinggis to be installed abroad. A famous Chinggis quote on how he approached affairs of state is inscribed in Turkish at the front of the statue, and in the traditional Mongolian script at the back. It says, “Let my petty body lie exhausted, but not the nature of my state. Let my whole body lie exhausted, but not my state.” On the top of the statue are the moon, the sun, and the element of fire. The Mayor of Ankara, Melih Gokcek, was also present at the ceremony. In 2003, Ulaanbaatar and Ankara became sister cities, when it was agreed to build Chinggis Khaan’s statue in Ankara and Turkish Hero Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s in Ulaanbaatar.
