I decided to open a thread about the great military commanders of the Steppes, I want to add two commanders for now:
- Köl Tigin: (684/5-731) Son of Qutlugh (Iltirish Qaghan [r.682-691]), brother of Bilge Qaghan (r.716-734), probably the best Tujue commander ever. Joined 9 campaigns and fought in 16 battles against many enemies such as the Chinese, On Oq, Qïrghïz, Toquz Oghuz, Bayïrqu, Qarluqs and Az; personally killed and captured many warriors; de-throned his cousin Inel Qaghan, massacred his supporters and enthroned his brother Mojilian Shad as Bilge Qaghan. He was only 16 when he fought at his first battle.
- Pusa: Uyghur rebel leader who ambushed and defeated Yugu Shad's army of 100,000 men only with his 5,000 riders at Malie in Gansu in 627.

Maybe we should give it our best to compile a 'top ten' list.
IMO, the vie for number one comes down to Chinggis and Timur. What do you all think?

Yes, of course they do, as well as Chinggis Khan's two most famous generals Subegetai Baghatar and Jebe Noyan. Zafer, could you please give us more info about this General Bayan? It attracted my attention

But he was not a part of the steppes.
I think you have a serious problem in reading. Maybe you should go to an eye doctor.

hahaha , I actually have glasses, ;D
he is of turkic origin and ruled and defeated central asian and ottoman empire, that makes him to qualify as a steppe commander because of his turkmen origin, he came from southern turkmenistan, ,it s the same place that tughrul beg and alp arslan came from,
