Does anyone know of a reference that might state that Istemi married the wife of his brother Bumen after he died? She would have been the Wei princess Chang'le. Regards:Loren Varga

Greetings Loren Varga. I shall look for this and tell you my findings in a few days. But I don't think and remember that Istämi married Bumïn's wife because he was the semi-independent ruler of the Western half of the newly-founded empire. Such marriages (the wife of a dead qaghan marries with the successor) were made within the families either in the East or in the West. I don't remember such marriages between the Eastern and Western halfs of the empire.

I could not find any indications that Istämi married Bumïn's wife.
