so I think it's well kind of weird that 99 names of Allah and the 99 Tengris but I think thta 99 is just a popular number ;D I think the 33/99 worlds and names of Tengri are a Buddhist influence. Most likely found only in Mongolia and Tuva. Does anyone know if there is an etymological connection between the Turkish word Din and Tengri?

Din (deen) is an Arabic word of Pahlavee Persian origin.

I see there are a few Turkish friends here that call themselves Tengriist - I wonder, what does it say on the back of your ID card in the "RELIGION" box??

Probably "Islam" or simply nothing. I doubt nothing, it almost always says Islam by default. In 2002 there was a case in Bursa where a guy tried to get it changed to Shamanism, but his application was rejected. It's very easy to apply for a new ID card if you pretend you lost your old one (costs 2.70 YTL ) and they do it all infront of you so it'd be interesting to ask them to edit the Religion box. But then again I think they mentioned that they were gonna remove that box anyway.

It would be better if they would remove that box because most of the officials working in state offices usually treat you bad if they see there something other than "Islam".

Yeah, but for those who want to make a point... Then again Turkey is secular and there is no need to advertise one's religion on an ID card.

Yes indeed, you're right, especially because Turkey is supposed to be following the French model of secularism.
