this is actually more of a request. I've got my hands on the following book (not mine though): www.amazon.com/National-Museum-Afghanistan-Pictorial-Guide/dp/B00AD0LXV2/ref=sr_1_1the book is from 1974, so probably before the looting by the Taliban. anyways, one of the exhibts back then is shown as a small b/w photograph in the book, captioned as "Ghaznavid lustreware bowl of palace scene, 13th century". it's most likely not from the 13th century though, but i assume it's actually from the Ghaznavid period as the caption states, since a couple of the figures clearly show the typical style of Turkish ghulams caps and hairdressing that you can also find on similar lusterware bowls from the contemporary Seljuq areas. at least two of the figures are mounted and armed, which makes the item even more interesting. maybe Druzhina already has this picture in his collection?

Interesting piece, thanks. Indeed the Ghaznawids ended in the year 1186, so the piece is either not from the Ghawnawid period, or not from the 13th century. Looking at the style, I guess that it probably dates to the 12th century.

It could be lusterware from Ghazni. iranicaonline: "Across the hallway was the Islamic Room, also modernized by UNESCO in 1958, with 10 showcases containing bronzes, lusterware, mural paintings, pottery, ceramics, and marble sculptures from Ghazni (11th-13th centuries)." I found it in a catalogue: Isl.p Gh. 1376. 43a & b, but I don't have any better pictures. Druzhina Illustrations of Costume & Soldiers
