When did Altiac people start switching from mostly hunter-gatherer to mostly herders? When did last hunter-gatherers switch? Most sites only give the date farming is invented but that happened in Iraq, not the Steppes. I know Siberia lasted much longer than the Steppes.

True herding requires domestication (cf. Native American buffalo hunting). It is believed that the Botai culture domesticated horses around 3500 B.C., assuming you are talking about horse herding and not cattle herding, of course. Cattle domestication is about 3K years earlier. As for when Altaic people started switching... *shrug*, but not, most likely, before those dates. My guess is that there wasn't a real "switch" because hunter-gatherer lifestyle still existed much later. It would be, as we'd say today, a "mixed economy" of hunting, gathering, and herding.

Dont forgett the later sedentary lifestyle of turks , with the creation of Ordu, headquarters, under Modu Chanyu, the first time turks build a city, or a lesser extent involved in trade and farming.
