Dear Colleagues:
I am forwarding below some Calls for Papers for panels at the CESS conference to be held September 15-18, 2011, in Columbus, Ohio (for full details on the conference, see www.cess.muohio.edu/). If there are others who would like to send out calls for panelists, please feel free to send them to CEL@fas.harvard.edu (i.e., the posting address for Central-Eurasia-L). I will gather any further panel calls and send them to the list on February 19 or 20 (this is to avoid a flood of separate panel calls). This should be a very good conference, I expect, and it is worth emphasizing that organized tend to be the best venue for presenting your work and they are given preference in the selection process, so I encourage you to organize a panel -- either with a group of colleagues whom you have in mind, or with the help of an open call like the ones below. If you wish to send out a call, please send it by Feb. 19 -- this will allow time for people to respond to your call and for you to submit the panel proposal by the March 1 deadline.

Two Panels: (1) Steppe Warfare, and (2) the Mongol Empire
I am interested in forming 2 panels for the September CESS conference at Ohio State and hope that these topics, which have not received enough attention at previous conferences might generate some interest.
The first is on Steppe Warfare (Scythians to Zhungars).
Second, a panel on the Mongol Empire, ideally 1206-1260, but these
parameters are very fluid and can shift to post-dissolution if need be.
Please send an abstract and CV to me at tmmay@northgeorgia.edu.
