Magyars

I decided to open up this thread because I wanted to know more about the Magyars.

I'm not so familiar with their history, but as far as I'm concerned, they came from the Ural Mountains, lived a nomadic lifestyle similar to that of the Turks and the Mongols and spoke an Ugric language ( not to mention, most of the Ural Mountains is still inhabited by plenty of Ugric-speaking peoples ).

I've seen some pictures of their clothing. For example, their pointed hats looked similar to the ones used later by the Kipchaks, Kazakhs and Cumans. I think they also absorbed the practice of braiding hair long before arriving in Hungary, possibly even before they got on the move and in contact with the Central Asian Turks.

Hi,I don´t understand why we have to have two topics about the Magyars.When in fact Magyars and Hungarians is the same thing.Just that the Magyars are their ancestors.But it concerns the same people.
You can just go to the topic-Hungarians and there you will find all the information and pictures.

Aynur,the source you give is very nice.It tells shortly the most important information.
Probably you know that the Magyars and the Bulgars lived closed to another in the past.
They were eventually conquered by the Huns around 5 century and joined them on the Big Quest of conquering Europe with the empire of Attila the Hun.
