A korean bloke showed me a chapter of a very recent study into the Manjus/Mongols during the early days of the conquest of Ming China. I don't have time to read through it all, but looking through it, it is a very good read as well as well-referenced. Here's the link, this study is conducted by a Korean research Dr. Wontack Hong: "The Manchus Co-opt the Mongols to Rule over East Asian Continent: Eight Banners and Neo-Confucian Civil Governance" .pdf form www.wontackhong.com/homepage1/data/1141.pdfI'm sure someone here can find a use for this, we don't really get much sources about Manjus/their origins/their ways before sinofication etc. Enjoy

Hmmm... In fact, we know very well that Manchus regarded Mongols and, particularly, Genrhiz khan very highly. The were bound by the blood ties with Genhiz khan line and Qing rulers like to think about themselves as "reincarnations" of the great khan, not to mention similar culture, aphaber, religion etc. We also have tons of original Manchu sources, which they wrote about themselves. Despite sinofication Manchu were kind of "crazy" about their own culture and language and it was the official language of Qing up until the end of the empire. There is the whole Russian historical school about central Asia and particularly about Mongolia and Jungar khanate which is based exclusively and only on the Manchu language sources.
