Very nice pictures.
I don't know if it's historically accurate, but I read somewhere that Hulagu Khan locked the Abbasid Caliph inside the treasury, to "let him starve to death with his treasures." lol...

That is one of the two different narratives describing the death of the last Abbasid caliph. It was also depicted in this late Medieval European manuscript: The other better known narrative describes how the caliph was wrapped with a carpet and then run ower by hoursemen to death. Attachments:

Sorry it took a couple months (I get distracted and forget stuff like this.) Those were Avars from The Age of Charlemange DLC (the middle one are just simple horse archers) I'll be back with more when I get home.

Awesome drawings. Giuseppe Rava is a brilliant artist indeed.

i have to warn everybody to get this book. i already wanted to talk about this before on facebook but never got around doing so. anyways, absolutely avoid gettign this book for two reasons: the scholarship is really poor, many pictures and a lot of the information is sourced through wikipedia, some items even from re-enactors. the second reason: even if you only wan to get this book for the Guiseppe Rava artwork (which of course is great), the problem witht he book is that both the paper and the printing is of extremely poor quality, so you won't get to enjoy it. if you want his pictures you'll fidn them on his facebook page for free and in much better quality (with watermark but still better than the crappy book illustrations).
besides, as you can see from the first picture comparison, all reconstructions of historical warriors have already appeared in previous Osprey books. the Hun in Roman service is from the respective book on Roman military clothing, the picture of the free Hun is from the warrior series book on Huns, the Roman horse archer is from late Roman cavalryman, also warrior series, and the armored sarmatian is from the men-at-arms book on sarmatians. all of them are more worth it than the garbage that is this book above.

you mean its the same quality as any book we fans would try writing for the first time! not every history book has to be a new original study altogether but, well as long as it doesn't contradict the original source material Osprey publishing isn't sacred, and these new derivative works insure their important legacy lives on... but I agree, the paper quality was terrible indeed, both physical material and writing format!

from the same book as discussed. the armored horseman on the right is a taifali auxiliary in the roman army:

I had to scan the whole book because I feared it would fall apart someday l0l! oh you haven't seen it yet a friend told my I should just use the pages as kitchen paper!
