i was using Google Earth to find old fortifications since quite some time now but only now i found out that Shahrukhia even existed! however the map was vague and i couldn't find it on Google Earth immediately, does anyone know where exactly i have to search or even knows the exact coordinates?
I believe this is a city on the Amu Darya (Jaxartes), upstream from the Freghana Valley, that was called Beneket or Feneket--that is, "Phœnix." "Phœnix" can mean either the legendary bird or "palm tree"; there were several cities by that name (there is a Feneket in Turkey, and another on the coast with a similar name that I don't recall exactly). If memory serves, the Feneket you are after was renamed Shahrukhia in honor of a son of Timur. I think it would be in modern Kazakhstan.
