My opinion about member TheDiplomat`s claims :(In page "Love thread" he said "Chinggis khaan was cruel guy & he had great army so he always said :-surrender or die" ) Chinggis khaan is cruel -well yes I admit this. Actually everyone(=warrior/hero) is cruel!!! I can be very cruel if I descided to destroy something.(=LOL Yosa of war -01 : everything must be destroyed to form a perfect flat steppe! for our horses. Yosa of war -02 there must be left no free noble man from enemy cuz they might revenge back...etc) it is just a old way of life.(=I mean in ancient times). Remember society & thinking always evolves! Chinggis khaan was a great diplomat! Yes it is, He united nomads & claimed to sedentary ppl about this. "I have united all the ppl who lives in tents(=gers) & named it The Great Mongol State & they chose me as Khaan(=king). As a khaan I want equal rights like U, also I wish to trade!" (NOTE that Tigin is not a self claimer he is like united all nomads Turks, Kazaks, Mongols, Uighurs....& others in one forum under the Yasa! I guess few ppl can or would like to do this.) The sedentary lords joked : "A barbarian state!? I never heard about such nonsense!, these few barbarians whos number doesn`t reach a half million(=U know our forum still can`t reach 1000) even have no villages or cities, these self claimers even don`t have own writting script! if they are using our script they should obey us & be the servents of our empire.(=LOL proboards)" The Great khaan replied : "Ok! I have 100000 elite selfdestructive(=ppl who want a war) men/warriors who born wild & was in war all the time I`m not afraid of your 500000 boys. Surrender or the Kok-Tengri will descide who was wrong!" The elchi of the Great Khaan asked "-What is your reply?" The sedentary lord : "Kill this worm & send his head to his Khaan!"(=Most rude answer!) When Mongols destroyed one sedentary kingdom others rised. They said "These barbarians are too savage! we have nothing to do with them." -The Great khaan first stoped killing Elchi world wide(=ppl with knowledge of language cuz it was hard to find or train them). -Build the capitol city Kharkhorum -Introduced Mongol script, to be admited as a nation.(=A Barbarian nomore!

Hulegu Khan was absolutely genius. He setup the Ilkhanids in Persia, centered in Tabriz. Even in today's Iran, Tabriz has a lot of Turks. He brought Turkic influence and gained a lot of power. It's one of the few times in history Turks aren't traded as slaves, but rather, the ruling class. Helagu khan was really one of the best Mongol rulers indeeed. But I would like remind you that Iran was conquered at least twice by turks before the mongols came.

I actually quite admired Tokhtamysh of the Golden Khanate (descendent of Orda Khan), uniting the Khanate, invading Muscovians even though they had gunpower. Sad how he met his end by Timur though, cousins against cousins.

He betrayed the person who rose him to power, and paid it's price.

There are other later Mongol khans who played big roles too. Altan khan of Chahar, Dalai khan Batmonkh, and Galdan khan of Oirat etc...

Ungarn von Sternberg, or von Ungarn-Sternberg (he used different forms at various periods of his life) was born in Graz; he was indeed a member of the aristocratic family with the castle. However, he was raised by a stepfather in Tallinn, Estonia, and therefore also can be recognized as a Baltic German.

think u said execpt Chingis Khaan. Then I think Hulagu, Kubilai was good, maybe Batu but i do not like him.
I like Hulagu also becuse of his Bagdad massacare and the ending of the assisins clan. Ain jalut, even if no Khaan was present was it Mönke or Hulagus army? And on whos orders?
many name Chinggis Khaans sons as great leaders but of what i have read no one of his sons were really of the caliber as of his grandsons. Ögedei did not do much himself but drinking if i got it right. Maybe the sons had it too easy. the grandsons had to fight more for power, Chinggis made the decision and they could not change it.

Why? Hülegü Ilqan was under the service of Möngke Qa'an. Indeed. It was the other princes and generals who did all the conquests.

well, I just like some of the other capable khans better, and becuse he was the son of Jochi.
Dosent feel like he had the right to contend about the title of the great khan (read he was). After the what happend with his Jochi and Chingis.
His brother started a civilwar, his father almost. Feels like the whole Jochi line of the Golden family were trouble

Hülegü was descendant from Tolui, not from Jochi whose sons ruled the Golden Horde(s)...
