There is a new biography on Chinggis Khan which I think is very good. It is called Chinggis Qan and the Conquest of Eurasia, a biography. It was written by Doeke Eisma. He is a Professor at the Institute of Sinology, Leiden University, The Netherlands.
The descriptions says:
"This book is a new biography, based on Grousset's 1939 biography, but including results of the studies published after 1939 up to the present..."
It does seem to be more than just an updated version of Grousset's biography because there is a long list of the references he used.
It may not have any real new information on Chinggis Khan. But it is a well written book that is general enough for casual readers, and it has enough facts and insights to satisfy the well read student of the Mongol Empire.
One thing that I like about the book is that it is easy to read even though it is packed with facts.
There are also many good maps.
I really like this book.
Amazon.com has it for $37.00 US dollars not including shipping. But you can get it direct from the publisher lulu.com ON THIS PAGE for $25.00 US dollars not including shipping. They ship around the world, HERE IS THE SHIPPING FAQ.
There is a download of the book for $16.00 US dollars but then you would have to print out 223 pages if you wanted it on paper.
If you get Chinggis Qan and the Conquest of Eurasia, I hope you find it as enjoyable as I did.
The author Doeke Eisma also has another book called Mongol Rule. Reflections on Mongol Sociopolitics. It is on THIS PAGE.
I have ordered it and I will post about the book when I get it.
