I`m sorry but there are few Mongols! Warrior without chest mirror /!!!TOLIT!!!=the sun mirror/ is not a warrior! Also, Mongols hate Dragons! Chingis khaan`s body guard must have a flag with Khaan`s Symbols!!! Chingis khaan`s symbol was white falcone /white bird!/ -not a Dragon!

Intresting pictures! I agree with the Bor Chono that there are few mongols. Most of them looks like solders from Golden Hord and Djungars in the late periods! Dragon was their simbol when they invaded Kazakstan in 17 century. (Djungars where under Chineese)Mongol solders were not allowed to wear ammor because only noble families were allowed to wear it and it was the sigh of cowedness. But there was some exeption espesialy for cavalary of Subidai!

At the battle of Kalka. Where joint Russian and Kypchaks army fought with mongols the cavalary of Sube'etai Ba'atur was exellent. It saved the first expedition from total extinction.

["Nomad"]I thought the great Khans flad had the head of grey wolf with nine tails?!["Nomad"]
Ancient Mongols were realists! Freaky animals considered Demons or came from Tengri=99. I`ve never heard a stories with wolf with nine tails! I know stories with warewolves. Chingis khaan is desendant of BLUE WOLF, however his tribe is HIAD BORJIGIN=HAAN BOR CHONO=King brown wolf. But the symbol of tribe is white falcone! Also great khaan has 9 Tsagaan Suld=Nine white Symbols(or Flags-but it is not normal flag) and one Tsergiin Har Tug=Black Tug(=flag) of army.
White Tugs are for good, for peace One Black Tug is for WAR.-increase power, speed, anger -also make enemies /without chest mirror/ weak!

Foggot to mantion mongol horse actualy should be much smaller and wider with strong legs. This looks more like some arabic horses. More over mongol raiders had three horses each for suprise attacks. About the flag!!! So it could be the wolf head as it was the totem of Chingis Khan with nine tails! At the beging before the empire! Qipchaks when usually went to battle had their totem on the flag or banner. Two crossing lance. X

-Yes, but YAK tail? Who told you that? Long black Yak tail is for Helmets not for Tughs. Also real mongols(tribe of chingis khaan) don`t raise yaks. -originaly Tughs must be made of horse hair not tail. It makes Tughs short. But, presently mongolian tughs are mixed with tail and hair-LONG, they look good. In inner Mongolia they made it with only hair! so they look shorter that Ar Mongolian tughs.

So, any good online sources with accurate images of Mongol (and other steppe nomad) banners & flags? Here's an image Ishan posted in another thread. The banners on the bottom may be later, like from Mughal India, but the upper ones are very Chinese and Khitan in design and are undoubtedly the type carried by Mongols. And Bor Chono is right. The banner of Temujin's tribe had a white falcon carrying a black snake. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the secret history. The wolf-head banner was used by the Gok Turks I think.
