(Originially posted by me at November 13, 2004)---- What was the official name of the Mongol Empire of Chinggis Khaan? Khökhö Monggol Ulus? ---------------- (Originially posted by Chono at November 22, 2004)---- Nope, it was Iegghe Monggol Ulus. In modern halha it would be Ikh Mongol Uls. "Blue Mongol" is just an unofficial folklore word. ---------------- (Originially posted by me at November 22, 2004)---- Hmm, so Yegghe was the old form of Ikhe? I thought Ikhe means "great" and Yegghe means "Beautiful", similar to Turkic Yaqshï/Yakhshi. ---------------- (Originially posted by Chono at November 24, 2004)---- It's just a matter of scripts. Classical script writes Iegghe and in cyrillic it's ikh. But what we say is something inbetween.

Interesting thing is that in Âzeri, "Great" is Yeke whereas the Anatolian Turkish word for it is Büyük

I think words : Yeke, yekke, ikh are has same meaning "Great" "Large". We Mongols call : Mongol-iin ikh ezent guren=Mongolian great empire. or Ikh Mongol Ulus=The great mongolian state. Also I like the way japanese call : The great empire of the great(=all) mongols under the great(=one) eternal blue sky I mean their kanji "Dai=big" is can be translated as "great"
