In Soviet times, Germans used to be the third (!) largest ethnic group in Kazakstan (after Kazaks and Russians).
In 1979, Moscow even attempted to form a German authonomy in the central Kazakstan (!). Thousands of Kazak students rallied against that in the city of Tselinograd (today's capital Astana), and the Communists cancelled the idea.
In the years of independence, the biggest influx was of Germans. Germany provided good repatriation program, and many Germans left. In 1999, Germans became the 5th largest ethnic group (after Ukrainians and Uzbeks). In the beginning of 2006, they were 7th largest ethnic group (now after Uyghurs and Tatars) totaling 222,500 people (1,5% of the entire population).

i think the total population of Germans in Kazakhstan was about 10 millions in Soviet times... You think way too wrong. In 1940s, total number of deported Germans to Kazakstan was 349,713 people. Before Soviet Union's collapse, number of Germans were only rising, so at 1989 Germans were at largest in Kazakstan - 957,000 people. 10 years after, a lot of Germans left to Germany, and in 1999, their numbers were 353,441 people. I believe Germans had positive contributions to my country, as they are regarded as being very hard-working people. You may want to further read some analitical materials about it, because I might be biased, as my grandfather's close friend was a famous German Kazak writer, translator, and critic Gerold Belger.

i see
well of course Germans did not come to Kazakhstan on their own free will, their original choosen lands were in Ukraine and especially along the lower Volga near Saratov. For Russians, Kazakhstan was a useless plain area intended as a prison for Germans.
