I was wondering if the cresent and star was used before islam was born? if so, whydo states like pakistan, tunisia and bangladesh use it

I read the info on wikipedia.but it says it is byzantine without mentioning that thegökturks used it,we will have to wait on great kagan to explain,

The crescent-and-star or crescent-and-moon figures were used by Sassanid Iranians and Western Türks (Gök Turks, Tujue 突厥) in the 6th-7th centuries, before Islam even appeared, as can be seen on coins.
