The fourth picture down is a painting of Arpad on his white horse during the Honfoglalas. I also question some of the others. They look like hussars. I don't think the Ottomans used the trapezoidal shields.

As Hjernespier pointed out, this is the "coming of the Hungarians".
Even though this miniature is from the Topkapı Palace, it reflects Uyghurs in the Mongol periods.

why you keep on posting stuff that doesn't belong here? Ottomans are not Steppe people like the picture itself says, it's a Venetian Stradiotti. please stop posting random pcitures without even giving comments. it's pointless.

No it's not, the Ottomans were an empire that had origins in the Steppe, and who continued some Steppe-Turkic trasitions.

nevertheless, the Ottoman Empire didn't ruled a Steppe Empire and their Army was not a Steppe one.

They actually ruled a part of the Steppe: the Crimean Khanate Besides, the hevay cavalry equipment of the Ottomans was quite similar to those of Qazaqs.

well do you mean the Batyr posted by Bawirsaq once? the chair aina armour was used in the Indo-Iranian world, but not in the Ottoman Empire. Ottomans, Crimean Tatars and Russians had very similar armour though.

nevertheless, the Ottoman Empire didn't ruled a Steppe Empire and their Army was not a Steppe one. It depends on how you definde steppe people. Are these just people whose economy was based on pastoralic nomadism? Then, Ottomans are probably not. However, in this forum some people which are not "steppe ones" in this strict sense are discussed as actually being a part of "steppe realm" due to their close ties to the steppe; particulary, Cossacks. Bearing this in mind, I don't see why Ottomans can't be discussed here as well, cause they obviously had close historical connection to the steppe realm.

Do you mean this one? I don't see much difference between this and the Ottomans. Of course there can be some differences in detail among the equipment, but in general, they look similar. Nonetheless, the Uzbeks and Kazakhs looked more similar to the Ottomans when compared to the, lets say, Oirats or Sakhas of their time. I agree. Funny thing is that, the House of Osman belonged to the Qarakečili clan of the Qayï tribe (I am also from this clan, and thus a relative of this dynasty); these Qarakečili were among the latest Oġuz-Turkmens who migrated to Asia Minor (excluding smaller groups who came from Khorasan in the 17th century), which was around the mid-late 13th century ;D

Bearing this in mind, I don't see why Ottomans can't be discussed here as well, cause they obviously had close historical connection to the steppe realm. but what are those ties? i mean other than Crimean Tatars, i don't see it at all. and i'm talkign about the military, i'm sure people will point to me legacies of the Steppe but it doesn't change anything. the Ottoman Empire was an Islamic Empire more in the tradition of the Eastern Roman Empire and the Army had hardly any features of Steppe warfare, particularly after the middle ages. and i already posted pictures of early Ottoman cavalry in the other thread, particularly the picture above which was probably just copied from that thread because i found it on a Romanian site and i doubt he is Romanian.
