An excellent book on the excavations at Pazyryk. "Frozen Tombs of Siberia" by Sergei I. Rudenko translated by Dr. M. W. Thompson. These frozen barrows contained Persian and Chinese textiles. They date from around 400BC. there is some more information at the Hermitage Museum www.hermitagemuseum.org/html_En/03/hm3_2_7.html

more about "Frozen Tombs of Siberia" The economy was that of stock breeders: "The wide variety of horses in some burials is most remarkable. Together with small plain herd animals, there were thoroughbreds, powerful cantering animals and typical riding horses." the book has 146 text figures and 180 plates, 32 in color. Of interest is the tattoos on a male found in one of the tombs. Here are some samples of the figures and plates: blueskymongolia.info/pazyryk/pazyryk.html

This is great stuff! I'm switching over to "female steppe warrior.com" to see if the book is available.
