Who here can use a bow? OK let me re-phrase that who here has a bow or would like one. I have finally finished a little pet project of mine ;D I have always wanted to redesign a composite bow for the modern age! Now it's finished and i'll try and upload some pictures of it. Its bassically a metalloid bow made from nitinol alloy with a damascus steel pattern welded grip. It's key feature is that it is made from "memory metal" so it springs back into its orignal shape no matter what you do to it. I designed it with a friend who works in the metallurgy department of Mettis Aerospace limited (they are a world renown company that produce aircraft parts!) However i have only made the one yet. if it were to be made in mass production it would be hidiuesly expensive somewhere in the region of $12,000!!! Yes thats twelve thousand US Dollars per Bow! Few of us can dream such a number but becuase Sharky works for them he was able to produce it! The bow is only a prototype but have my word for it it is stupidly powerfull. I have owned and made dozens of bows, longbows, crossbows and have considerable experience with guns. However this new bow could probably outshoot anything on the target course! Ill let you guys know how it goes.

What is the use of a new material? its not hard to make powerfull bows, the human is the limit of the power of the bow. And composite adds some % drawweight where the same strenght is needed. but i dont really understand what is the new thing? What makes it more powerfull? with Fiberglass u could make a bow that is too powerfull to use anyway.
interesting ur project, Would like to know where the improvment are from fiberglass or any other material.

300 lb draw weight bows, hell I can hardly aim. I think I'll leave the heavy stuff to my big-ass cousins, me being the smallest dude in the family at 6 ft and 75kg

300 pounds in draw weight. Its not possible. You got a crossbow? The offcial registred "WORLDRECORD" in pulling heavy bows was made at 200 Pounds! I myself got a Crimean Tartar bow at 90 Pounds at 28" and no one oh my none archer friends can draw it. not even close. Sorry i just cant belive you pull a 300 pounds bow, Thats what I can benchpress, and u can lift that with one or ur backside shoulders? You would have to be 150 kg of pure muscles. I dont really know how much a compound bow lowers the feeling of the drawweight but sure not enough for anyone to draw it

I know! I think that's the heaviest draw weight ever recorded in a bow - but it could be the one sent to Europe to showoff some firepower - forgot which Khan did that. 300 = 140 kg, divide that to 2 arms, 70kg - average weight. So perhaps if you have a good draw technique it MAY be possible. Well, I've seen one of my cousins grab a bloke then throwing him backwards with one arm so I know it's possible to have a 70kg pull strength. (That mofo flew)

its not possible! first of all u cant just devide it to two arms! you need to use ur small muscles on the backside of ur shoulder. u come and show me ur cousin draw it and i will buy u ten horses. he throwed someone? you hit someone in the face you use all ur body behind it. I both wrestle and box. or did. And i sure know u can throw heavier men but u cant compare that. you use ur whole body and arc it in most throws. Historicly, the bow maker from Hungary (Grozer Csaba ) said no bows over 100 pounds where used i war. I dont belive you belive this. did you not say u were a gunman? try pull a hundred pounds bow? I bet most mongols use under 70#-60# at those naadam competitions.

I never liked using bows on my hunting trips, since I haven't had much practice (I went straight to guns) and since if I miss a clean kill; I feel sorry for my prey, but I know what I've heard, though I will admit I'm not a bow expert.
Pulling strength is back muscle yes, though my cousin didn't use his body weight on that occasion, he just grabbed the bloke with his hand while walking, threw him backwards and walked on. He was just 'passing through'. It's a long story if you want the details but that's irrevelant.
