In Osprey's MAA 'Imperial Chinese Armies 200BC-589AD' a photo of a Northern Wei cataphract statue (p40) wearing lamellar armour can be found. Can someone scan me this photo please? Is this cataphract wearing a lamellar neck protector? To me it seems like this. What kind of helmet is the warrior wearing? Are there other depictions of this kind of helmet? Thanks for the help. Greetings

Thanks for the pictures. What I mean is the black/white photo on page 40 depicting a statue from a Northern Wei warrior. Statue which can be seen in the British Museum. Greetings

Ah ok, these ones These are not from the book you said, but from Osprey's Attila and the Nomad Hordes. However, they fit in the description given by you.

This is the photo I was looking for. Thanks. In my opinion he is wearing a neck protection. Am I right? Is this neck protection also made of lamellar? I was surprised to read that the helmet was lamellar. Do they mean a leather backing covered with lamellar scales? Hope someone can help me with my questions. Thanks Greetings

I'm talking about the first picture. You can see a neck protector (made of lamellar) running from beneath the shin upwards to his left ear. Much in the same way as a Korean neck protector (same period) How was the helmet constructed? Greetings

i agree, definately the same materiel than the rest of his armour. but to judge from such crude figures is always difficult, i prefer archaelogical finds. soemtimes the weirdest kinds of armour have been invented by modern historians by liberal interpretation of statues etc...
