The Chionites. Perhaps in an Ancient World they were known as H'yaona.
A Central Asia tribe(s) dwelled probably in Ferghana Valley.

What about their origins? Culture? Customs? Language? Religion? Military?

from what I know they were the Huns that ravaged India and today there's still a small tribe that claims ancestry from them.

It's doubtfull if Red Huns were identical with Chionites. There're many speculations and teories and the sources are very limited. They appeared in Bahman Yasht and Pahlavi texts as one among the invaidors of Persia - karmîr and spçd Xyôn. Some recognize them as Kermichiones or Ermechiones. In India they were known as hala-hûna= dark or Red Huns. Respectively úveta-hûna or sita-hûna meant White Huns. The problem is that for the Persians Xyôn was generalized as "any nomad tribe from the North" and there were some following waves of the conquerors. As the term Huns for Europeans and in later times Tartars or Mongols.
