A series of questions:
*When were the Massageths at their prime? *Describe their armies if possible (I would really like to know about their heavy cavalry) *When did the Massageths end as a power?

i think you know most of the questions answers in the meantime but i still answer them 1. probably under their Queen Tomaris when they fought Cyrus the Great 2. probably the usual Steppe army of Horse Archers as well as Cataphracts which were most likely invented by them. it has also been noted that the saka tribes of Central Asia apapretly were also River pirates sailing on the Oxus and yaxarts akin to the early Cossacks 3. Massageths moved from Kwarazmia to north of the Caspian Sea and joined soem Sarmatians to eventually become the Alans.

Massageths moved northwards to the Sarmatians above the Caspian Sea and then merged with some of the Sarmatians to become the Alans.

It is said also said there is a connection between their names and the Getae of north of Thracia. Sorry, no connection whatsoever. "Getae" was a generic Graeco-Roman name for Dacians, Goths, and a lot of unrelated people. By no means were the Massagetae or Thysagetae related to Dacians, BUT they clearly were a Saka tribe, as illustrated by language, weapons, and those great tall hats. The brilliant defeat of Cyrus the Great by Queen Tomyris was a landmark in ancient history. Sextus Julius Frontinus-- a famed Roman tactician-- admired her strategy. Tomyris was the Sun Tzu of the steppes; and the whole scenario, from exploiting Cyrus' male ego to baiting him into an indefensible canyon, will remain a classic. Alanus
