My opinion that many Bashqorts are nationalistic and proud people is also based on today. This opinion was formed from the contacts with various Bashqorts on Internet.
Russia uses Tatar minority in Bashqortostan to put two people into mutual antagonism. And Tatars, instead of cooperating with brotherly Turks, play on Russia's tune and become separatistic in another Turkic republic.
Idel-Ural republic was somewhat true back in early 20 century, and actually many Bashqorts like Ahmet Zeki Togan were the advocates of that idea. There's no actual proposal of Idel-Ural republic today.
Unfortunately, I never visited Bashqortostan, nor Tatarstan, and all of my opinion come from the internet forums.
