Slaying The Iron Beast ;D After 1921`s Communist revolution, Mongolian new Communist government declared that Mongols don`t need any religion. In the end of 1920s there was a (big?) monk/ppl rebellion in Tamir region(=suma) of Arhangai aimag. First to introduce in Mongolia, A tank from Russia were used to destroy their temples & buildings, were they were hiding. Rebels rushed to stop that Iron beast. The used everything wood, stones, ropes...etc. When the tank stoped for few seconds they managed to surround it & tie this iron beast with ropes made by animal skin. Rebels, women & children too surrounded it -to look at it. The driver was Russian & could not tell them to move away in Mongolian. So he gave sound signal & used the lamp to give light signal too. Some old lady said "My sons! look the beast`s eye is blinking, I know what to do bring hot yellow-oil!". When they were about to pour the oil on it, the iron beast moved & destroyed all buildings. Rebels had no place to hide & were arrested.(=maybe killed).

hmm when did the nomads switched from tengrism to shamanism If i remember correct the turks became directly muslim or christian I guess Nomdas switched from Shamanism to Tengrism. I think those people were Tengriist before. Then some division happened after a cataclysm and different people choose different gods of the underword and overworld. Isn't "shaman" a profession? Like a doctor, or a communications officer?

Yes, that's true. That's also the reason why the term Shamanist is problematic. I personally usually prefer avoiding using that term, but sometimes I have to. Instead of made-up and sometimes false and even offending terms like Shamanism and Paganism ( Pagan, meaning "Villager" in Latin, was used by Christians to humiliate Roman polytheists), I prefer to use terms like Ancient Turkic Religion, Ancient Mongolian Religion, Ancient Germanic Religion, Ancient Greek Religion, etc.

Buddhism did weaken Mongolia. It also slowed down Mongolian development and progress. Most people in Mongolia call themselves buddhist, but in reality they are not devoted true believers of buddhism. Kinda like Roman Catholics, who only attend masses on Christmas day and holidays. I am a Christian myself and Christianity has been growing quite a bit in Mongolia in recent years. My Mom was a Christian also but she changed it to "Boo" or Shamanism, however you wanna call it. Pretty much she explains that it is not a pagan religion I am a connector between heaven and people. In 'Boo' spirits possess her body and tells others what they need to hear. If i remember it correctly 'Boo' originated from Mongolia. I am sure they are many different kinda of 'Boo' out there. But Mongolian first religion is perhaps Boo. I might be wrong there but that is what i know right now.

And I don't see any particular advatnages of any organized relgion. Mongols made their choice and at least it helped them to stay unique among the other nations.

Böö in Mongolian (a loanword from Old Turkic Bögü meaning "clever man" and "wizard") means "Shaman" I guess mgltacoma ment "Shamanism" from "Boo".

I'm a little suspicious now actually. Oh nevermind, I shall bite me tongue :X The Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) has a huge missionary network, and are based in SLC. A friend who lived in Ulaanbaatar for the last 4 years said they, including converted Mongols, were everywhere there.
