We all know uygurs are good metal crafters & make verry good knifes. They all seem to carry one on them.
When did this started when did they became metal crafters.
I would like to know the history of this.
I know the knifes of Kashgar are famous.
Were did they get the iron from china or altai mountains?
anything you know would be helpfull especially articles ;D
thanks, Atabeg shad

I have a little Yengisar Knife hanging on my key chain and a few really nice ones back home in America. If anyone wants one we can talk it over and I'll try to mail you a real nice one. As for the questions you asked, I can probably ask my friend and get some answers for you.

I asked my friend just now and he's not sure on how many years ago this started but all he can say is that Uygurs have done it for a long time, from back when they wree nomadic and much longer than the Chinese have been doing it. They got their iron and metals from their own natural resources, not the Chinese. Actually, the Chinese have been buying knives and swords from Uygur metal crafters for a very long time. The reason why the knives from Yengisar are more popular than knives from other regions is simply because the people there have better skill and talent in making knives. The people there are decendents or the old Uygur metal craftsmen so it's a tradition that's been past down to every generation, a skill that hasn't been lost yet.

Oh no, don't bother man, the Chinese are very arrogant people, especially when it comes to Uygurs. You can show him 1,000 books as proof but they'd never believe it. Even if they do believe it or know it deep inside, they'd still never admit it.

Yea, I don't let it bother me here because I do know that many Chinese here just talk nuts but actually know the truth. I remember I went out with my Chinese "friend", the one who's been trying to break me up with my Uygur girlfriend. He asked me what I did that weekend, I told him I went out with one of my friends, he asked about him so I mentioned a few things about him. I remembered that this Chinese guy told me that Uygurs are stupid, only good at stealing and can't do anything without the help of the Chinese. So I told this guy my friend is Uygur and went to college in Shanghai at Fudan University. Once I said that he put his head down looking at his soup bowl, I asked him if he knew this college and he wouldn't look me in the eye he just kept studdering that he never heard of this school then he changed the topic. The point I'm trying to make is that Fudan University is the 3rd. best school in all of China, and more and more Uygurs are getting in there every year. Any idiot here knows the reputation of this school, so you see, they just talk nuts trying to spread bullnuts rumors about Uygurs but they know what's up. That's why they're scared of Uygurs.
