So apparently no pieces of lamellar armor have been discovered in Kipchak sites. I wonder why the Kipchaks did not use lamellar armor as it was popular among various Steppe peoples both before (such as the Avars and Gokturks) and after (such as the Mongols) the Kipchaks.

this is strange. how about the pechenegs preceeding them? and surely russians had lamellar too, so if they had it why not cumans?

The only type of armor found in Kipchak graves so far, as far as I know, is chain. No lamellar has been found so far, except those from the Mongol period of course. I also noticed that I haven't seen any Kipchak stone statues depicting warriors with lamellar.
I don't remember about the usage of lamellar by the Pechenegs, but they might not have used it too. Since the Russians and other earlier Turkic peoples were familiar with lamellar, I find it strange for the Kipchaks not using them.
