Qashqais was resetled from Azerbaijan to Southern Iran during Safavid era, from areas around Ardabil. Such resettlements was quite common during Safavid era, resettling tribes to border areas to defend them against foreign invasions.
They are closely related to Azerbaijani Turks, the language are in fact same but there is alot of Persian influence in Qashqai.
Qashqais in fact can be also considered as a sub-branch of Azerbaijani Turks, and their language a dialect of Azeri Turkish.

Merci, Attila. Were the Qashqais relocated near the Persian Gulf in order to fight off potential naval invasions by various European powers? By any chance, do you know what the term "Qashqai" comes from? Thanks for replying. I don't know the etymology of the word; but a wild guess would be maybe the name is related with Oghuz itself? Anther similar sounding word is "Ashkenazi" although I guess they shouldn't have any relationship. Ýhsan probably knows more about the etymology of their name.

Those people gave their name to Nissan Qashqai The Qashqai is named after the Qashqai, a semi-nomadic tribe living in mountainous Southwestern Iran. "Nissan's designers believe that the car's typical buyer would also be itinerant in nature. "
