en.tuvaonline.ru/2010/07/25/necropolis.htmlOh, this will be exciting! "It is unique in that this is a completely clean, burial place that has never been excavated , untouched by any civilization, - Semyonov enthuses. - The dimensions of the kurgans bear evidence to the high social status of the people buried there. It is a double-layer necropolis, most likely Scytho-Turkic."

Great news, but in the end it says that excavations are not planned It would be very bad if those kurgans won't be excavated. Who knows what great stuff would be found there (if not previously robbed). And I also disagree with Semyonov's view that balbals did not represent the number of enemies killed, because 1) He says a single person could not kill that much of men. However, in a long lifetime, a single person can actually do it. Especially in a war zone. 2) In the Turkic inscriptions, there exists the expression "I erected the balbal of (title or name of executed high-ranking official or ruler)". This is a clear evidence that balbals were in fact erected for prisoners and warriors killed.

I posted this then read to the end and also got disappointed that they won't excavate. The least they can do is some ground penetrating radar investigation.
