I have limited knowledge about historical facts that even a professor do, u cant knowledge on all fields,
and still u give no source on your statment
I doubt your statment about there being azeris looking like turkmens, the most turkmen looking azeris I have seen is only their eyes and not facial features, azeri still look indo-european even with slanted eyes.
could u specify,
U lack to see the geographicaly obstacles , its not just a sea, there is no land connection,
Althought the lingustics say that the closest language to turkmen is azeri a turkmen speaker understands more uzbek or other turkic languages than azeri , just becasue its dialect from the same root doesnt mean that its the closest,
For example , a turkmen guy understood kirgiz after two weeks during his visit in kyrgyzstan, and after 2 months he spoke the language , something a turkmen cant do with a the azeri language

Like said, you could read about those yourself, and it would be a good start.
It dosen't means Persian population were Shia. Go and read how Persians were converted into Shia faith during Safavids.
Oghuz Turks settled in Azerbaijan because of Azerbaijan's large pasture areas.

abdulhay, it is very common knowledge that the majority of Iranians were Sunnis before the Safavids forcily converted to Shia in the 16th century. And of course Azerbaijan has conenctions with Central Asia.
