The so called 'Varangian Bra" ... a harness that goes around the body of a soldier under the arms and usually with a shoulder strap, goes back to the 5th Century in Sassanid art and appears soon after in Byzantine art. (See article www.nvg.org.au/documents/vv/vv_issue_28.pdf)I/m curious if anyone here knows related eastern harness use, and also ideas for its functionality. Thanks, Rick

i have to say i also already wondered about that. maybe it is similar to the sun disc of Mongol armours?
