In a course I'm doing on the end of the Roman empire, my lecturer keeps repeating that the modern Ossetians are descended from the Alans.
Does anyone else know of this association? Anyone know where she might be getting this info from? Is it correct?

To my knowledge, the Alans lived somewhere around modern Ossetia, with their capital Magas, which was destroyed by the Mongols during Batu's Eastern European Campaign. The Ossetians are the only Iranic people in the region (not counting the other Iranics in Southern Dagestan and Northern Azerbaijan), so I think this is what makes them believed to be the descendents of Medieval Alans.
