It doesn't matter which is better Mongol or Japanese, at the end of the day both hundreds and thounsand years old and both very interesting. You guys have to see Naadam with your own eyes to really appreaciate it. I spent 2 months in Mongolia last year and enjoyed the horse racing, wrestling events immensly. Nearly had tears in my eyes. If you check my signature, i have some good naadam photos I took at the Naadam.

Hello Bor Chono, nice topic, nice information. Thanks! When I was in Mongolia I heard two stories about clothing of mongol wrestling; 1. To show beauty of male body 2. One time in history there was a women who won Naadam wrestling, since then they use very little clothing to show they are men. Which is right? This is picture of private match for us in Khovd province, just after Naadam; The judge is a Kazakh man living in Mongolia. In the back you see Jargalant Altai mountains. The left wrestler is very strong, he was champion of Khovd province. He also does sumo wrestling. I wrestled him, but I could not move him!!! Haha! Better photo of left wrestler. (you see his little son in the background, he was called Temujin! He still wears girl hair style!!) One more question Bor Chono: Why do winners get candy??

In Turkey, the Kırkpınar wrestlers wear pants, but don't wear anything over the torso and arms.

About 1st question : both right. 2nd one is most popular answer! About 2nd question : -It is quite hard to answer. Who is the winner. Winner is the strongest and person who has great amount of Hiimori spirit. Hiimori is transmited by smell & touch. The winner takes candies & cookies. Then he gives it to crowd/ppl. Ppl will fight to get a piece of it. Or ppl will try to touch the winner, to get his smell =smelly water. (-I`m sorry we Mongols are not animals but we think real man`s smell is important.LOL ;D) ;D

Thank you!
I do not think that is strange tradition. At least not as strange as asking for signature of someone?? That is so strange and dumb if you ask me???!! I think it's more interesting way to show respect to touch the winner to get sense of his strength and succes (= hard work).
Now let's try to touch Tom Cruise, I think you will end in jail !! ...strange world sometimes.
