Thank you for the explanations and for your efforts, dear tantalus Does Räshîdä'd-dîn mention any such stories in his famous Jâmi'u't-Tävârîkh? I still have not acquired it yet, but I am planning to go the library of Bilkent University in 1-2 weeks.

Thank you for the explanations and for your efforts, dear tantalus You are very welcome! I had fun looking through my books. And thank you for mentioning the doubt about the story. I would not have known. Does Räshîdä'd-dîn mention any such stories in his famous Jâmi'u't-Tävârîkh? I do have only a part of the Jâmi'u't-Tävârîkh in the form of Boyle's translation of The Successors of Genghis Khan. But it starts with The History of Ogetei Qa'an. It does not mention the taking of Bukhara. But when I was looking through my books, anytime an author mentioned the reference for the Bukhara mosque speech story it was always Juvaini. So it seems that Juvaini may be the only source for the story. I still have not acquired it yet, but I am planning to go the library of Bilkent University in 1-2 weeks. Please post if you find anything of interest.

"I am the Flail of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon You." -CHINGIS KHAN, said sometime during his campaign in Persia. in fact that's a quote from Timur, not Chinggis. i think it is from Chinggis Khan

"Heaven grew weary 8-)of the excessive pride and luxury of China... I am from the Barbaric North. I wear the same clothing and eat the same food as the cowherds and horse-herders. We make the same sacrifices and we share.. our riches. I look upon the nation as a new-born child and I care for my soldiers as though they were my brothers."
