Mongol army learned such skill from Chinese army when they invaded China. Cannon is very useful to break city wall, when wall was destroyed, Mongol Warriors flowed into city from that crack. none of those cities have been taken using cannons.

Maybe you are confusing trebuchets and mangonel with cannons because they are all called "artillery"?

Can somebody give me evidence (preferably online) that trebuchets were used by Mongols during the siege of Kiev?

i will try to fidn such sources. BTW, there were different types of Trebuchets, the Trebuchet used at the siege of Xingyang was a counterweigth-trebuchet, refered to as Muslim engine by the Chinese. the trebuchets used for taking Kiev were of the older type, pulled by war-prisoners. I posted pics of both sieges in the picture thread.

These trebuchet pictures from Rashid-ad-Din - are they "Muslim engine" or the older type?

These trebuchet pictures from Rashid-ad-Din - are they "Muslim engine" or the older type? Muslim Engines were only invented around this time when Hülägü conquered the assassins strongholds, so they were quite new on the battlefield. the origin of the traction trebuchet is not quite certain from what i know, but most scholars put it's origin to China. the pictures you posted are the new counterweight-trebuchet type. here is the picture with the siege of Kiev: this is the new Muslim engine first used in CHina in the siege of Xiangyang:

The thing is that Osprey's plate of the traction trebuchet being used in the siege of Kiev was put in doubt on one of the forums.
I simply want to prove them wrong. I need evidence that trebuchets were used in the siege of Kiev.

Nevermind, Temujin, I've already found a mention of Batu's bombardment of Kiev with trebuchets in the Russian Ipatievskaya Chronicle.
Thanks for the help!
