It is both actually. The Chinese, especially those in the north, started reforming their armies along steppe fashions starting from the 4th century BC. The Yan, Han and Tang were the best examples of that. They also used important numbers of steppe peoples in their armies too.

This is a really interesting thread topic, thanks. Does Han Dynasty cavalry count as warriors who adopted steppe warfare? Or is its large amount of steppe-born recruits compromising to be considered thus? Ihsan already pretty much answered your question. yeah unfortunately though, due to the crash of my external HD, i wasn't able to finish this thread the way i wanted...

Nice pics But actually the Mughals were already a steppe-origined people and the army that invaded and conquered India was a steppe army, so the Mughals did not "adopt" steppe warfare.

Nice photos hjernespiser.
fysaga, as far as I know, none of those peoples except the Germanic tribes ever adopted Steppe warfare.

Nice photos hjernespiser. fysaga, as far as I know, none of those peoples except the Germanic tribes ever adopted Steppe warfare. Hm,the arabs were mostly Nomads with an style warfare style which was pretty close to Steppe. Also I just wanted an excuse to post some of this awesome pictures. ;D
