Have Qaraqalpaqs anything to do with the Qarapapaqs (A Turkic tribe, anciently located in the Ahiska, Georgia)? Qarapapaq and Qaraqalpaq both have the meaning of Black Hat. Qarapapaqs of Georgia and Western Azerbaijan are also known as Terekeme. By that name, they are probably a branch of Turkmens. There's an ethnic group called Truhmen in southern Russia (near border with Georgia) who are believed to be a branch of Turkmens. www.terekemeler.comAlthough the name Terekeme suggests that they were Turkmen, in fact they are Kypchaks, speaking a dialect of Turkmen.

well ok, but i think there is an interestign connection. according to what i've read, the Chernye Klobuki were the remnants of Torks (Uzes) and Berendei. and Karakalpaks live today in Uzbekistan. and Uzbek came from one of the Khans of the Golden Horde... Uz Beg meaning ruler of Uzes. so why did Uzbeks called themselves after this Khan? there might be a connection.... Ghuz, Uz are just the distorted forms of Oghuz. Nomads of Desht-i Qipchaq started to call themselves "Ozbeks" after more than century of Ozbek khan's rule, and only in the eastern part of the Golden Horde. Therefore, the connection of Ozbeks and Golden-Hordian Ozbek khan is still theoretical. Literally, "Özbek" is translated as "self ruler". And I have never before heard about the connection between the Oghuz (Ghuz, Uz) tribes and the Genghisid Ozbek khan. What kind of evidence are you basing that claim on?

Although the name Terekeme suggests that they were Turkmen, in fact they are Kypchaks, speaking a dialect of Turkmen. If they spoke an Oghuz dialect, they probably were of Oghuz stock themselves. As far as I know, some Turkmen tribes were relocated to the Northern Caucasus region by Kalmyks who had an authority over them in Mangistaw. Those Turkmens probably became both Truhmens of Russia and Qarapapaq-Terekeme of Georgia and Azerbaijan.

What kind of evidence are you basing that claim on? i'm not sure where, but once i read that Ozbeg Khan was not from the line of Jochi and he was the ruler of a tribe called Uzes who usurped power...

I think that is quiet impossible because if he was a non-Chinggisid, he could not have used the title Khan.

btw, look at this family tree: ![](http://www.friesian.com/history/mongol-2.gif) Özbeg Khan, though descendant of Jochi apparently, is not quite in the right sucesion line...

No doubt that this girl is moer beautiful than all the Slavs. If the 1st and the 2nd are not Altaic, I will insist on blaming that jury.

Well, the winner and the 2nd place winner are more Russian looking. I can't blame the juries, Tatiana (the winner) is a really beautiful blondie from Rostov na Donu (one of the remotest places in Russia). The 2nd place winner is from Irkutsk, Buryatia but is not a Buryat girl, but is also very beautiful. ;D
