why do you call them western turkmen, does a eastern turkmen exist,
then you refer to western turkmen, you refer to the oghuz turks that are descent of the seljuks right!!!

Why do I feel like I'm repeating my self
Look
Turkmen is used to name Muslim Turks of oghuz origin(only non-turkmens i know are the gagauzs)
The selcuks were of Turkmen origin both Turkmens, Anatolians & azeris are descendants of the Selcuks.

Just like the word "Turk", the word "Turkmen" is a generic term for all Oghuz Turks.
So today, only Turks of Turkmenistan and Iraq use "Turkmen" as their constant name, but in fact all Oghuz are essentially Turkmens.

It's similar to the word "Turk"
Only Anadolu Turks use it constantly, but it's a generic term for all Turkic peoples from Mediterranean to Siberia.

Turkmen is as much a broad term as a Turk, comprising Muslim Oghuzes.
If you agree that there're many types of Turks, why can't you agree that there may be several types of Turkmens, not "just plain turkmen".

Turkmen has nothing to do with muslim oghuzes, it maybe implayed to muslim turkmens, but the word turkmen has been used since the age of the gok turks, first appearence of the word turkmen came from a soghdiana source there they where mentioned as "twrkmen", the soghidnas source is earlier then when the first arabs came to central asia, therfore turkmen doesnt mean muslim turk, but it si possible they where reconiceds as that,
there is two kinds of turkmen, todays turkmen, which compose Turkmens of turkmenistan, Iran, afghanistan, Irak, syria, and china. they are called turkmen, and is a nation,
the second you are talking about is historical turkmens, which include azeris, anatoliens, turkmens, of turkmenistan, Iran, afghanistan and so on.
there is a difference between historical turkmen and the turkmens today,
Turkmen today only implayes, as I said earlier Turkmens of turkmenistan, Iran, afghanistan, Irak, syria, and china.
