i read today about so called "Ounnigardai/Oingardai/Ounigardai" mentioned by the ancient author Synesius, talking about a small group of supposedly Hunnic mercenaries in service of Eastern Rome fighting in the Cyrenaika in the early 5th century. so this Hunnigardi is supposed to be a variant or corruption of Huns, but i'm thinking it sounds more like Onoghurs, despite the different spelling of that name in Greek. thoughts?

Interesting fact indeed, but it depends on the exact date of the events described. Most of the Oghur tribes came to the Pontic-Caspian steppes only during and after the 460s. Before that time, only the Saraghurs (Saragouroi) are mentioned to have been ruled by the European Hunnic Empire (Attila had to put down their rebellion).
